Water Boosts Brainpower!

Next time you feel like you are reacting a bit slow to your friends' jokes, consider drinking some water.

According to a new study published in The Journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, drinking water when you feel tired can help you think , act and perform better. The participants who drank water before performing a series of cognitive tasks reacted faster than those who did not.

"If the slower reaction times translated into real world performance, it could mean that people are generally a little slower at performing tasks," says Dr. Caroline Edmonds, senior lecturer in psychology at the University of East London.

  • Drink to think

This research looks at the effect of hydration and drinking water on cognition. I am interested in the positive effects of water consumption on cognitive performance, both in children and in adults. Recent work in adults includes measuring hydration using bioelectrical impedance and relating this to cognitive performance measured using CANTAB. Recent work in children includes papers on the positive effects of water consumption on cognition.

  • Nutrition and Cognition

I am also interested in the effect of nutrition on cognition, the brain and mood, in collaboration with colleagues from the MRC Childhood Nutrition Research Centre at the Institute of Child Health, UCL. Under the direction of the centre director, Professor Alan Lucas, deputy director, Professor Atul Singhal and Senior Research Fellow, Dr Elizabeth Isaacs, this research examines the effect of early nutrition on long term cognitive outcome and brain structure. We have studied a number of different cohorts, examining, for example, the long term effects of early diet in children born preterm and the effects of intrauterine growth restriction in a twin cohort. The data have also been used to answer more general questions about cognitive development and the relationship between cognitive function and brain structure. For example, in our preterm cohorts, the structural localization of mathematical function has been investigated, and in our twin study age related changes in inspection time have been examined.

Where Personal Growth begins
with Mr. Tony Robbins

Inspiration doesn't interrupt you; it’s something that has to be pursued. We all must feed our minds and make conscious choices about how we direct our thoughts, energy, and focus; otherwise, the demands, negativity and inevitable distractions of the day will take over.

To do this effectively, we need a system, a daily ritual that will ensure we’re taking control of our focus, learning new tools and proven strategies to make a difference, and taking action to create momentum and produce results. *Visit
